Do you dream of a well organised and clutter free home?

Many people do dream of a calm, organised home and staging it as such can bring huge benefits and can help sell your home.

When you have lots of physical possessions in a home this can cause a feeling of stress and can be overwhelming. Clutter also distracts and steals the focus away from what is most important. Clutter makes it difficult to relax at the end of the day because the environment sends signals to the brain that there is still lots of work to do.

Living clutter free means a calmer, more relaxing and easier to clean home. Once clutter is cleared it tends to leave room for creativity and it certainly helps others appreciate the home, which is key when selling.

When decluttering items should be separated into keep and put away, recycle, donate, rubbish and needing action piles.

Items should only be able to stay if they add value in some way, either because they are useful or beautiful. William Morris famously quoted “If you want a golden rule that will fit everything, this is it: Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.” William Morris

If you have a duplicate item or something that is useful just in case, it is helpful to be decisive and if in doubt throw out and check how you feel. My forever friend and regular blogger @snippetsto share advocates the idea of questionning’does it spark joy?’ if not then it doesn’t belong in your home.

Storage is key

Utilising space is essential when selling. Using boxes or rotating shelves in cupboards can be a huge asset and a big selling point. In cupboards it is useful to use wall storage shelves and hooks to organise items.

One idea is to try to remember when you buy something you could let go of something else. Not only will this save clutter but should avoid unnecessary purchases.
